NEW YORK — Saudi Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasel commended the United Nations development system’s role in supporting member states’ national plans and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He stressed the need to enhance development effectiveness and achieve tangible, measurable impact. He made the remarks while speaking at a meeting of the Executive Boards of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). The meeting was held at United Nations headquarters in New York, with the participation of representatives of member states and senior UN officials. Al-Wasel emphasized that institutional reforms should be gradual, balanced, and led by member states, while adhering to transparency and conducting impact, cost, and risk assessments. He called for aligning country programs with national priorities and ensuring optimal use of resources to deliver clear development outcomes. He noted the importance of advancing development finance tools, including innovative financing mechanisms, and strengthening public-private partnerships. Al-Wasel reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s support for South-South and triangular cooperation, capacity building, and the use of digital transformation and modern technologies. He also underscored the Kingdom’s continued constructive engagement with international partners to enhance governance and development impact, and to support stability, prosperity, and inclusive development.
