GENEVA — Saudi Arabia emphasized the importance of protecting seafarers amid escalating threats to maritime navigation safety in the Strait of Hormuz.Speaking at the 50th session of the International Maritime Organization’s Facilitation Committee (FAL 50), the Kingdom reaffirmed its commitment to the session’s provisions and its support for proposals aimed at strengthening navigation safety and safeguarding seafarers.Saudi Arabia also backed the council’s declaration condemning attacks that violate international law and threaten maritime transport and global trade.The Kingdom voiced concern over the security and economic impact of recent developments on global supply chains.Saudi Arabia underscored efforts to leverage logistics corridors through its Red Sea ports and integrate them with various transport modes.Through an initiative by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), the Kingdom is supporting affected vessels by supplying fuel, provisions, and facilitating crew changes, with several ships in the Gulf region benefiting from these services over the past 72 hours.In addition, the Transport General Authority introduced a 30-day renewable waiver for certificates and documents required to issue or renew navigation licenses and work permits for Saudi and foreign vessels operating in the Arabian Gulf.
