LONDON — Saudi Arabia underscored the importance of protecting maritime routes, ensuring freedom of navigation, and maintaining stability in global energy markets and supply chains during an exceptional session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council in London on Wednesday.Eng. Kamal Al-Junaidi, the Kingdom’s permanent representative to the IMO, reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to international maritime safety frameworks, particularly the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention, including navigational warnings, search and rescue operations, vessel guidance, and risk avoidance.He stressed that the Kingdom remains a responsible partner committed to safeguarding maritime safety, protecting lives, and supporting a rules-based international system grounded in cooperation.Saudi Arabia also highlighted its continued efforts to enhance maritime security through strengthened monitoring, information sharing, and heightened readiness to respond to potential threats.The Kingdom emphasized its role in facilitating the smooth flow of global trade through safe and stable maritime corridors, leveraging its strategic location and regional and international standing.Saudi Arabia is represented at the IMO Council by the General Transport Authority, which continues to uphold international obligations and contribute to global maritime decision-making as part of the Kingdom’s broader commitment to supporting international initiatives.
