RIYADH — Saudi Arabia recorded a notable increase in patent applications filed by individuals and national institutions in 2025, reflecting growing awareness of the importance of protecting innovations and maximizing the value of intangible assets. The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) reported a sharp rise in individual patent filings from 2,007 in 2024 to 3,942 in 2025, a 96 percent increase. This surge highlights the expanding base of innovators and entrepreneurs, as well as heightened awareness of intellectual property protection. Patent applications submitted by national institutions also rose significantly, increasing from 408 in 2024 to 734 in 2025, an 80 percent increase. This growth underscores the rising commitment of national entities to safeguarding their innovations and converting them into valuable economic assets. SAIP noted that these increases have contributed to a rise in the total number of patent applications to 10,300 in 2025, compared to 8,029 in 2024. It reaffirmed its continued efforts to strengthen the intellectual property ecosystem, streamline registration procedures, and support innovation, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
