WASHINGTON — Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al-jubair reaffirmed the Kingdom’s long-standing commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, announcing a $1 billion pledge to support efforts aimed at ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.Speaking at the first meeting of the Board of Peace in Washington, Aljubair said Saudi Arabia is embarking “on a journey towards establishing a lasting and just peace in the Middle East,” emphasizing a two-state solution in which “Palestine and Israellive side by side in peace and security.”He said such a peace would transform the region “from death and destruction to hope and prosperity” by integrating its resources and unlocking its potential.Al-jubair underscored that the Kingdom’s pursuit of peace dates back decades. In 1981, the late King Fahd presented the Eight-Point Plan, adopted by Arab leaders at the Fez Summit, which reinforced the principle of land for peace. In 2002, the late King Abdullah launched the Arab Peace Initiative, which was unanimously endorsed by both Arab and Islamic nations. The initiative called for normalization of relations with Israel in exchange for a full withdrawal from occupied territories and the establishment of a Palestinian state.Today, King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman continue to work toward “a vision for peace and prosperity and security and integration in our region,” Al-jubair said.He expressed Saudi Arabia’s readiness to cooperate with the Board of Peace to advance what he described as a “noble objective.”Aljubair concluded his remarks by announcing that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia would pledge $1 billion over the coming years to support efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people and promote a peaceful resolution.“We look forward to working with the Board of Peace to establish this noble objective,” he said.
