The estimated $7 billion project will comprise more than 1,500 kilometers of new track. Its core component is a 900-kilometer railway between Riyadh and Jeddah, providing direct freight access to the capital city from King Abdullah Port on the Red Sea.

This is in addition to the upgrading of the existing Riyadh-Dammam line, besides building a bypass around Riyadh and a link between King Abdullah Port and Yanbu.

In October 2024, MEED, citing an informed source, reported Saudi Arabia’s plan to begin work on the $7 billion (SAR 26.3 billion) Landbridge project in early 2025.
