RIYADH — Saudi Arabia strongly condemned attacks carried out by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces on a military hospital, a World Food Programme aid convoy, and a bus carrying displaced civilians, which killed dozens of unarmed civilians, including women and children, and damaged humanitarian facilities in North and South Kordofan. In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom’s “strong condemnation and denunciation” of the criminal attacks targeting Al-Kuwait Military Hospital, a humanitarian relief convoy affiliated with the World Food Programme, and a civilian bus transporting displaced people. The ministry said the attacks constituted flagrant violations of international humanitarian law and relevant international conventions and “cannot be justified under any circumstances.”Saudi Arabia called on the Rapid Support Forces to immediately halt such violations and to fulfill their moral and humanitarian obligations to ensure the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need, in accordance with international humanitarian law and the Jeddah Declaration on the Protection of Civilians in Sudan, signed on May 11, 2023.The Kingdom reiterated its firm position in support of Sudan’s unity, security, and stability, stressing the importance of preserving the country’s legitimate institutions. It also reaffirmed its rejection of foreign interference and condemned the continued involvement of some parties in supplying illicit weapons, mercenaries, and foreign fighters, despite their stated support for a political solution. The ministry said such actions contribute directly to prolonging the conflict and exacerbating the suffering of the Sudanese people.
