The Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Chairman of the General Food Security Authority (GFSA) and SALIC Group, Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al Fadhli, launched today the National Grain Procurement Co. (SABIL), which will manage the operations of grains and strategic storage, aiming to empower the grain sector and strengthen the Kingdom’s supply chains.
The new company comes as part of the implementation of the two Cabinet decisions to transfer the General Grain Corporation to GFSA, and the formation of a steering committee to transfer operational tasks to SALIC, which is wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund, where SABIL will carry out operational tasks related to the management of silos and the strategic storage system for wheat, according to a statement.
GFSA Governor Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al Fares indicated that during the transition phase, the authority will continue to supervise the procurement of local and imported wheat, while SABIL has started handling wheat from ports to milling companies, and managing and operating storage silos in various regions of the Kingdom.
SABIL will operate 14 silo branches across the Kingdom, including four branches in Jeddah Islamic Port, King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, Yanbu Commercial Port, and Jazan Port, with a total storage capacity of more than 2.7 million tons.
