Riyadh led Saudi Arabia’s residential electricity consumption in 2023, using around 43,000 GWh, or 28.1% of the total, the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) reported.
Makkah followed with roughly 25.5%, while the Eastern Province accounted for 16.7%.
Al-Baha recorded the lowest consumption nationwide.
The Kingdom’s total residential electricity use reached 152,800 GWh, with 24,620 GWh consumed in winter (December to February) and 128,160 GWh for the rest of the year.

Thermally-insulated homes across the Kingdom increased by 2.9% to 38.9% by 2023-end. Meanwhile, those without insulation fell by 4.5% to 38% during the same year.
The GASTAT survey showed that 92.1% of local households prioritized energy conservation. Further, another 83.6% adopted energy-saving guidelines for appliances.
As much as 55.2% of households were willing to invest in energy-efficient appliances, while another 42.3% preferred using solar energy at home.
