Residential electricity consumption across Saudi Arabia reached 161,200 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in 2024, up 6% compared to 2023.

The percentage of the population benefiting from electricity services reached 100%, according to the household energy statistics issued by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT).

Riyadh recorded the highest residential electricity consumption with 45,000 GWh in 2024, accounting for 28% of total household consumption.

Makkah region ranked second with 26%, followed by the Eastern Province with 17%, while Al-Baha recorded the lowest consumption levels.

According to the data, 86.4% of households rely on gas for cooking, compared to 13.4% using electricity.

Among households using gas, 97% rely on cylinders, versus 2.7% using gas tanks.

Nearly 93.9% of households use steel gas cylinders, while 5.6% use fiber cylinders.

Almost 45.8% of homes were equipped with thermal insulation in 2024.

The data showed that 91.5% of households show strong interest in reducing electricity consumption. In addition, 91.9% follow energy-saving guidelines when using appliances. Meanwhile, 56.6% are willing to replace old appliances with more efficient ones, and 40.8% express interest in using solar energy as a power source at home.
