Assets of public investment funds in Saudi Arabia rose to SAR 193 billion in Q1 2025, an increase of 41% from SAR 136.7 billion in Q1 2024, data from the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
The increase was driven by a rise in assets of local funds by 41% year-on-year (YoY) to SAR 163.7 billion, which represents 85% of total assets. Meanwhile, assets of foreign funds, which represent 15% of total assets, rose by 40% QoQ to about SAR 29.4 billion.
The assets of local and foreign investment funds include stocks, bonds, cash instruments, other assets, and real estate investments.
The public investment funds are divided into open- and closed-end funds, with the total assets of 295 open-end funds at about SAR 161.8 billion, or 84% of the total assets. The assets of 27 closed-end funds reached nearly SAR 31.2 billion.
The number of active public investment funds at the end of Q1 2025 reached 322, compared to 325 in Q4 2024.
The number of subscribers to investment funds rose by about 25,000 QoQ to reach about 1.6 million subscribers at the end of Q1 2025.
