BASRA — Protests erupted in Iraq’s Basra after a deadly rocket strike near Khor al-Zubair killing at least three people, police said on Tuesday. According to police and health officials, rockets fired from the direction of Kuwait struck a residential house, leaving five others injured. Police said the death toll could riserescue teams continued searching for family members trapped beneath the rubble, Reuters reported. Angry demonstrators stormed Kuwait’s consulate, prompting sharp condemnation from Kuwait. Separate rocket and drone incidents also hit Baghdad and Camp Victory, while Kuwait imposed an overnight stay-at-home advisory amid fears of escalation. Kuwait ‌condemned the “storming and vandalism” of its consulate, ‌calling it a serious ‌breach of diplomatic norms and saying Iraq was responsible for any failure to take the ‌measures needed to protect diplomatic and consular missions on ⁠its territory, ⁠the Foreign Ministry said. The ministry said Kuwait was not party to any regional conflict and would not allow its territory to be used to launch attacks on any country. — Agencies
