MUSCAT — Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi on Saturday expressed dismay over the US-Israeli strikes on Iran, urging Washington to refrain from further involvement and warning that the attacks had undermined ongoing diplomatic efforts.“I am dismayed. Active and serious negotiations have yet again been undermined,” Albusaidi wrote on the social media platform X.“Neither the interests of the United States nor the cause of global peace are well served by this.”“I urge the United States not to get sucked in further,” he added. “This is not your war.”He also wrote: “I pray for the innocents who will suffer.”Albusaidi’s remarks carry particular weight given Oman’s role as mediator in US-Iran nuclear talks. He had met US Vice President JD Vance on Friday, hours before the strikes, and had expressed optimism at the time, saying that “peace is within our reach.”The strikes came as Washington and Tehran were engaged in negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program, with the latest round of talks concluding in Geneva on Thursday.Israel and the United States announced early Saturday a joint military operation against Iran, citing what they described as threats posed by the Iranian regime.Last June, the United States struck three Iranian nuclear sites during a 12-day Israel-Iran conflict.
