AMMAN — The Jordan Armed Forces announced Saturday that it had intercepted and shot down two ballistic missiles targeting the Kingdom’s territory, as regional tensions intensified following US and Israeli strikes on Iran.The military said earlier that its air force was conducting aerial sorties to “protect the Kingdom’s skies and safeguard its sovereignty” after the United States and Israel launched operations against Iranian targets.In a statement, the army said that sounds heard in the skies over several areas of the Kingdom were from Royal Jordanian Air Force aircraft carrying out routine patrol missions.It stressed that its forces “continue to carry out their national duty in protecting the Kingdom’s skies and safeguarding its sovereignty with full efficiency and capability.”Earlier in the day, the United States and Israel announced operations against Iranian targets, with US President Donald Trump saying Washington had begun “major combat operations” against Iran.
