RIYADH — The Jeddah Mayoralty has swung into action to put an end to the misuse of public parking spaces and restore them into their original status. The mayoralty detected and addressed a range of negative practices associated with the misuse of public parking spaces. This was part of its ongoing field inspection campaigns aimed at curbing violations and enhancing the urban landscape across all its branch municipalities.During these inspections, field teams identified instances of improper use of public parking spaces in Sharafiyah and several other neighborhoods. These illegal practices included the installation of electronic locks and various physical barriers to reserve public parking spaces, as well as the placement of solid objects, such as wood, chairs, and construction materials, to obstruct vehicle access. It was detected in inspections that these actions constitute clear violations of regulations and impede the proper utilization of public parking facilities. The General Department for Monitoring and Addressing Negative Phenomena at the mayoralty stated that field operations involved the immediate removal of all locks and barriers, with prompt corrective measures taken at the affected locations. This ensured that parking spaces were restored to their intended use and made accessible to all within the jurisdictions of the Jamiya, New Jeddah, Balad, Sharafiyah, Baghdadiyah, and Al-Hamra neighborhoods. The mayoralty reaffirmed its commitment to continuously monitoring and addressing such violations as part of its broader strategy to combat negative practices and enhance quality of life. It also urged the public to comply with regulations and instructions and to refrain from exploiting public facilities in a way undermining the public interest.
