TEHRAN — At least 40 people, including students, were killed and 48 others injured after Israeli strikes targeted a girls’ primary school in the city of Minab in southern Iran’s Hormozgan province, Iranian media reported Saturday.Quoting a provincial official, state broadcaster IRIB said the school was hit during attacks earlier in the day. Further details were not immediately available.The United States and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran early Saturday, saying it was intended to eliminate what they described as threats posed by the Iranian regime.Separate video statements were released by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump, both referencing the broader objectives of the operation.Iran described the strikes as a violation of its sovereignty, vowed to respond and subsequently launched retaliatory strikes.The escalation comes as Oman has been mediating talks between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s nuclear program.The latest round of negotiations was held in Geneva on Thursday.
