Diriyah Co. signed today, Dec. 17, a contract worth SAR 758.8 million ($202.2 million) with China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) to carry out bulk excavation works to establish several world-class assets in Diriyah, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported, citing Diriyah’s statement.

The second phase of the project, spanning 6.3 square kilometers (sqm) out of a total 14 sqm, will involve over 600 heavy machines to prepare the site for the development of world-class assets, including the Royal Opera House and Diriyah Arena. The Diriyah Arena, with a capacity of approximately 20,000 seats, is set to become a leading entertainment and cultural hub in the region.

This latest contract follows a series of significant awards to Diriyah this year, including a $1.55 billion joint venture for the Qurain Cultural District – awarded in November, a $2.08 billion contract for the Northern District, and a $2.13 billion contract for the construction of four luxury hotels and the Royal Diriyah Equestrian and Polo Club in Wadi Safar, all awarded in July.

The Diriyah Gate Development Authority (DGDA) commenced the first phase of the Historical Diriyah rehabilitation and development project in June 2020. This SAR 75 billion project spans seven square kilometers and aims to establish diverse tourist and entertainment destinations, Argaam earlier reported.
