Saudi ports recorded a 14% increase in container handling, reaching 699,930 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in March 2025, up from 616,080 TEUs in the same period last year.

In a statement today, April 9, the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) said outbound containers rose 32% year-on-year (YoY)to 280,340from 212,670 TEUs.

Inbound containers also rose 8% to 281,230 TEUs from 260,910 TEUs in March 2024. However, transshipment containers declined by 3% to 138,400 TEUs from 142,500 TEUs.

Total cargo throughput tonnage increased 9% YoY to 21.2 million tons. General cargo reached 971,900 tons in March, while dry bulk and liquid bulk cargo stood at 4.52 million tons and 15.7 million tons, respectively.

Ports received 871,600 livestock heads in March, down 9% compared to 961,130 in the same month of 2024.

The maritime traffic rose by 7%% YoY to 1,044 ships in March. The number of passengers also increased 35% to 84,670 last month. Meanwhile, the number of cars added 34% YoY to 90,270.
