Minister of Commerce Majid Al-Qasabi said the consumer protection law is in its final stages and will address many current consumer challenges.
Speaking at the inauguration of the 19th Saudi Business Center in Al-Baha, he noted that the ministry reviewed and developed over 110 legislations, including the corporate law, E-commerce law, franchise law, and their executive regulations.
Al-Qasabi added that market rules were enhanced to protect consumers, monitor prices, and combat fraud and concealment.
The ministry also launched a consumer complaints center, a recall center, and the “Imtithal” system for inspections.
He stated that 13 government bodies are collaborating to tackle commercial concealment, with an AI-powered electronic system guiding inspection teams in identifying suspected cases.
Al-Qasabi revealed that e-commerce made up 8% of total trade in Saudi Arabia in 2022, with expected revenues reaching SAR 260 billion by 2025.
He also mentioned that 50 million e-commerce shipments entered the Kingdom in 2023, while 190 million delivery orders were fulfilled via apps in 2022.
