The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said that Saudi Arabia’s aviation sector contributes approximately $90.6 billion to the country’s GDP, representing 8.5% of the total gross domestic product (GDP).

In a recent study assessing the economic impact of the aviation industry in Saudi Arabia, IATA stated that the sector supports around 1.4 million jobs.

The Kingdom’s air cargo operations handled 713,600 tons of freight in 2023, the report said.

In terms of international travel, 28.6 million passengers departed from the Kingdom in 2023. Cairo was the top destination, with approximately 4.1 million passengers, followed by Dubai with 2.5 million.

“Saudi Arabia will be at the center of global air travel growth,” said Nick Careen, IATA’s Senior Vice President, Operations, Safety and Security.

Speaking at the Aviation Day Middle East North Africa, he added that the Kingdom’s aviation sector is not only advancing, but moving forward at a rapid pace.
