Saudi Aramco-owned Motiva Enterprises has expanded its Port Arthur refinery in Texas to become the largest fuel-making plant in the US, Bloomberg reported. 
The refinery can now process up to 654,000 barrels of crude per day, more than the biggest US plants owned by ExxonMobil Corp. and Marathon Petroleum.
Motiva was able to increase Port Arthur’s capacity by removing bottlenecks in its processes, the report said.
Motiva’s expansion comes amid the closure of two other refineries – LyondellBasell Industries NV’s Houston plant and Phillips 66’s Los Angeles facility – both set to shutter this year.
According to data available withArgaam, Motiva operates the Port Arthur refinery in the US, which produces gasoline, diesel, commercial jet fuel, base oils and others. In addition, the company markets and distributes more than 76 fuel brands.
