Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz
King Salman bin Al Saud directed a series of measures to support citizens, based on a proposal by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, coinciding with Saudi Energy Co. (SEC) and National Water Co. (NWC) announcing changes to electricity and water tariffs effective Jan. 1, 2027.
The measures include a monthly allowance increase of SAR 500 for civilian and military employees covered by civil service pay scales and operating programs, retirees, and family members of deceased subscribers or retirees covered by the social insurance system, providing monthly support of SAR 500 to families benefiting from the social security program, under applicable mechanisms and regulations, to help mitigate the impact of electricity and water tariff changes, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The measures also raise the minimum wage for Saudi nationals to count as full employees toward Saudization quotas under the Nitaqat program to SAR 5,000 in the private sector, effective six months after implementation, and to SAR 6,000 after a further 12 months, aiming to boost wages and support sustainable employment of Saudi nationals.
