US President Donald Trump
US President Donald Trump urged the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates to 1% or less.
His remarks came hours after the central bank announced its first-rate hike since 2023.
In a post on Truth Social on Sept. 16, Trump said the US is bearing the burdens of other countries and called for interest rates to be cut “quickly”.
The Fed, led by Kevin Warsh, whom Trump selected for the position, raised its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points to a range of 3.75-4% in a unanimous decision by all 12 members of the Federal Open Market Committee.
