RIYADH — The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has implemented a traffic diversion on Thumamah Road as development continues on its 8-kilometer eastern section. The project aimed at increasing road capacity to more than 200,000 vehicles per day. It includes the construction of three bridges, three tunnels and four major intersections at Airport Road, Saeed bin Zaid Road, Sheikh Hassan bin Hussein bin Ali Road and Al-Sahabah Road. The traffic diversion at the intersection will redirect traffic to the parallel road on the northern side of Thumamah Road, providing three lanes in each direction. **media[2764822]** In addition, construction is currently underway on a bridge and tunnel at the intersection of Thumamah Road and Al-Sahabah Road. A service lane has also been provided for adjacent buildings to maintain traffic flow during construction of the tunnel, bridge and at-grade intersection, while alternative routes and directional signs have been put in place to ensure road-user safety and regulate traffic. The project, part of the third group of the Ring Roads and Main Roads Development Program, aims to improve traffic flow and reduce journey times and traffic delays. The wider program includes the construction and development of more than 500 kilometers of Riyadh’s road network through the addition of new roads, upgrades to existing major corridors and improved connections between them.
