RIYADH — Several energy sector facilities and installations in Saudi Arabia’s southern region were targeted Tuesday morning, causing fires, temporarily halting some operations and injuring several citizens and residents, the Ministry of Energy said. An official source at the ministry said relevant authorities had begun addressing the situation and taking all necessary measures. The attacks caused fires at several locations, leading to a temporary halt in some operations. Specialized field teams have begun containing the fires, securing the sites and assessing the damage. The source said several citizens and residents sustained injuries of varying severity and are receiving medical care as follow-up operations continue. Authorities are continuing to address the repercussions of the attacks and taking measures to ensure the safety of facilities and personnel, as well as the continuity of operations in accordance with approved operational plans. In a separate statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned Houthi attacks on civilian and economic facilities in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran, which injured 73 civilians, including women and children. Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its categorical rejection of the Houthis’ hostile approach and criminal conduct, which threaten the security and stability of Yemen, its people and the wider region. The Kingdom affirmed its legitimate right to take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty, protect its national capabilities and safeguard the security of citizens and residents, stressing that it would not tolerate attacks targeting its territory or resources. The ministry warned of the consequences of continued Houthi attacks on civilians and civilian facilities.
