RIYADH — Saudi customs authorities at Al-Haditha border crossing thwarted an attempt to smuggle 1,950,581 amphetamine pills into the Kingdom after discovering the drugs concealed in a shipment of lentils aboard an incoming truck.Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) spokesman Hamoud Al-Harbi said the pills were discovered after the truck underwent customs procedures and was inspected using security technologies and detection methods.The drugs had been concealed inside a shipment declared as lentils.Al-Harbi said ZATCA continues to tighten customs controls over imports and exports at all of the Kingdom’s entry points as part of efforts to combat smuggling and protect society.He said the authority works in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and the General Directorate of Narcotics Control to prevent attempts to smuggle drugs and other prohibited substances into the Kingdom.ZATCA urged the public to report suspected smuggling activities through its designated security reporting channels, stressing that reports are handled with complete confidentiality and that financial rewards may be granted when information provided proves accurate.
