The Insurance Authority (IA) directed health insurers in Saudi Arabia to offer a health insurance product without prior medical authorization for outpatient treatment, with the new product to be available to customers starting Nov. 1.
The authority said in a statement that the move is part of its efforts to address one of the key challenges faced by health insurance beneficiaries in recent years.
It added that the product is an additional option within the existing range of health insurance products, giving employers and policyholders greater flexibility to choose the insurance solution that best meets their needs.
The authority urged health insurance customers and beneficiaries to file a complaint if any insurer refuses to offer the new health insurance option when requested after the specified date.
