RIYADH — Saudi Arabia on Friday strongly condemned Iranian attacks targeting two tankers belonging to the UAE’s ADNOC while they were transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The Kingdom described the incidents as an unacceptable repetition of attacks on commercial vessels and tankers. In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the repeated attacks represented a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation and global energy supplies. The Kingdom said the attacks constituted a serious violation of international laws and norms and a blatant challenge to UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which affirmed the need to respect the rights and freedom of navigation of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz and condemned actions or threats that could obstruct maritime traffic.Saudi Arabia held Iran fully responsible for the consequences of continuing such attacks and demanded that Tehran immediately halt the violations and respect relevant international laws. The Kingdom stressed that regional security and the safety of international navigation are a shared responsibility, warning that the continuation of such attacks cannot be accepted or tolerated.Saudi Arabia also reiterated its full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and affirmed its support for measures taken by the UAE to safeguard its sovereignty, security and national assets.
