Saudi banks’ investments in Treasury securities rose to SAR 667.8 billion at the end of June 2026, up by SAR 4.8 billion from the previous month.
On an annual basis, banks’ Treasury holdings increased by 5%, or about SAR 31.4 billion, according to data from the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA).
Investments in government bonds accounted for over 72% of banks’ total claims on the government and quasi-government sectors in Saudi Arabia during the same period.
Banks’ total claims on the public sector reached SAR 930.1 billion in June, compared with SAR 863.2 billion at the end of the same month in 2025.
In Saudi Arabia, Treasury securities are long-term government debt instruments issued by the government through the Ministry of Finance and the National Debt Management Center (NDMC).
According to SAMA, Treasury securities include internationally issued government bonds and sukuk purchased by banks from the secondary market. SAMA T-bills are excluded in line with international methodologies.
