US President Donald Trump informs Congress of war resumption against Iran
In a two-page letter dated July 10, Trump informed lawmakers that US strikes against Iran resumed on July 7, in accordance with the War Powers Act, which requires the president to inform Congress within 48 hours of initiating hostilities.
Trump said no US ground forces were involved in the operations, describing the strikes as limited, deliberate, and carefully planned to minimize civilian casualties.
Under the War Powers Act, US forces may continue such operations for 60 days after Congress is notified, with a possible 30-day extension.
Any military deployment beyond that period requires congressional approval.
