In a post on Truth Social on Monday, Trump said the Strait of Hormuz will remain open to maritime traffic with or without Iran’s approval, adding that the blockade will target only Iran-linked vessels, while ships from other countries will continue to pass freely.

Trump said the US could now be considered the guardian of the Strait of Hormuz, arguing that receiving 20% of the value of cargo passing through the waterway is fair compensation for securing one of the world’s most volatile shipping routes.

He added that implementation of the plan will begin immediately, without providing further details.
