Residential mortgages provided by banks to individuals declined by 41% year-on-year (YoY) to SAR 4.37 billion in May 2026, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

On a monthly basis, residential mortgage financing fell by 31%, or SAR 1.95 billion.

The total number of residential mortgage contracts signed between banks and individuals reached approximately 6,500 in May 2026.

The average value of new residential mortgage loans declined by 10% YoY to SAR 667,000 during the same period.

Mortgages for residential villas accounted for the largest share of total bank financing, amounting to SAR 2.76 billion, or 63% of the total in May.

Apartments followed with SAR 1.28 billion, while land plots came in third at SAR 335 million.
