The US military launched airstrikes on Iran on Friday in response to what President Donald Trump described as Tehran’s violation of the ceasefire through drone attacks targeting vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said its aircraft struck Iranian missile and drone storage facilities, as well as coastal radar sites, without providing further details on the extent of the damage or the specific targets hit.
CENTCOM said the Iranian attack constituted a clear breach of the ceasefire agreement and undermined freedom of navigation in one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes.
It added that US forces continue to coordinate and secure the safe passage of commercial vessels through the strait, stressing that the military remains on high alert to ensure full compliance with the ceasefire agreement with Iran.
