WASHINGTON — The Kennedy Center has removed US President Donald Trump’s name from its building in Washington, DC, following a court order as a legal dispute over the naming of the performing arts institution continues.According to media reports, Executive Director Matt Floca said the president’s name was removed in compliance with a ruling requiring the change.Workers began taking down the signage early Saturday after the building’s facade was covered with a tarp a day earlier.The move follows a ruling by US District Judge Christopher Cooper, who determined that only Congress has the authority to change the institution’s name and ordered references to Trump removed from the building and related materials.An appeals court on Friday rejected a request by the Kennedy Center to pause the ruling while the legal challenge proceeds.The center had argued that reverting to the original name could create confusion among the public and potentially affect private donations associated with the naming change.The dispute stems from a decision by the Kennedy Center’s board to rename the venue after Trump and add his name to the building’s exterior.The legal challenge was led by Joyce Beatty, who welcomed the removal and said supporters would continue efforts to preserve the Kennedy Center’s original identity.The case remains before the courts, with additional legal proceedings expected later this month.
