SEOUL — South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has nominated Cabinet member Han Seong-sook as the country’s next prime minister, according to local media reports on Sunday.If approved by the National Assembly, Han, who currently serves as minister of small and medium-sized enterprises, will become South Korea’s second female prime minister.The country’s first female prime minister was Han Myeong-sook, who served from 2006 to 2007.According to Yonhap News Agency, the nomination comes as incumbent Prime Minister Kim Min-seok prepares to step down in order to run for the leadership of the ruling Democratic Party.The Cabinet reshuffle coincides with the first anniversary of Lee’s administration, which took office on June 4, 2025.Local reports said the prime minister’s office has already established a preparatory team to assist Han ahead of her parliamentary confirmation hearing.Han’s nomination will require approval from the National Assembly before she can formally assume the country’s second-highest government post.
