Speaking to Asharq News, Al-Rumaih said the move would provide a significant boost to liquidity in the Kingdom’s domestic debt market, which is valued at around SAR 1.04 trillion ($278 billion). He added that off-exchange trading in local bonds exceeded $3 billion in the first quarter.

According to Argaam data, Saudi Arabia’s Capital Market Authority said in April that the Kingdom’s riyal-denominated government issuances would be gradually included in JPMorgan’s GBI-EM index starting Jan. 29, 2027.

Bloomberg Index Services also announced the inclusion of Saudi riyal-denominated government sukuk in its emerging market local currency government bond index, with implementation set to begin at the end-April 2027 rebalancing.
