ABU DHABI — UAE Vice President Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan spoke with Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf in the first high-level talks between the two nations since the start of the war. In a phone call, the officials discussed de-escalation efforts in the region, according to the UAE’s state news agency WAM, without providing further details. The UAE bore the brunt of Iranian retaliation against the US and Israel, with several emirates targeted by hundreds of missiles and drones. In addition to US bases, hotels, universities, businesses, and energy facilities in the UAE were designated as targets in Iran’s attacks. Anwar Gargash, the UAE’s diplomatic adviser to the president, said earlier this month that Abu Dhabi wants a ceasefire that addresses Iran’s nuclear program, missiles, and drones, along with a “non-belligerence” commitment from Iran to the region. — Agencies
