RIYADH — The Traffic Department has introduced an online service enabling vehicle owners to transfer their registration plates without the need to visit its offices. It has urged vehicle owners across various regions and cities in Saudi Arabia to avoid in-person visits for number plate transfers. The department announced that this new service allows vehicle owners to complete the entire process electronically through the Ministry of Interior’s Absher platform. According to the announcement, the service simplifies plate transfers, allowing them to be completed with a single click. It also ensures secure payment, offers the flexibility to complete transactions anytime and anywhere, and provides the option to have the vehicle registration delivered via postal service. To use the electronic service, users begin by selecting the “Services” icon, followed by “Vehicle Management and Plate Transfer,” and then choosing “New Request.” The user then selects the option to transfer plates between their vehicle and another owner’s vehicle, enters the required details of the other party, and pays the applicable fees. The service requires that all outstanding fees be settled, and that both vehicles have valid periodic inspection certificates and insurance. It also requires mutual agreement between the two parties, confirmed by entering and verifying the other party’s information in the system. Once completed, the plates are replaced, and new vehicle registrations are issued, the department revealed.
