ISLAMABAD — Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday thanked Saudi Arabia and other allied countries for their “invaluable support” in helping secure a ceasefire between the United States and Iran.In a post on X, Sharif expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia, China, Türkiye, Egypt, Qatar, and other partners for backing diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict.“As we proceed to Islamabad Talks, I wish to extend our deepest and sincere gratitude to our brotherly countries… for extending invaluable and all-out support towards reaching the ceasefire and giving peaceful diplomatic efforts a chance,” he said.Sharif also thanked Gulf Cooperation Council countries, describing their continued support and commitment to regional peace and stability as essential to the process.Earlier Wednesday, Sharif announced a two-week ceasefire between the two sides and invited US and Iranian delegations to Islamabad on Friday for talks aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement.He also confirmed Iran’s participation in the upcoming negotiations following a call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.“The leadership of all our brotherly countries and the United States of America demonstrated exceptional strategic foresight… in giving peace a chance,” Sharif said.He called for continued cooperation to achieve a lasting resolution, adding: “Let us all work together to forge a lasting peace in the region and beyond.”The ceasefire was announced less than two hours before the expiration of a US deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and agree to negotiations.
