‎

The US, Iran, and regional mediators are discussing a potential 45-day ceasefire that could lead to a permanent end to the war, Axios reported, citing sources familiar with the talks.

The chances of reaching a partial agreement within the remaining US deadline are slim, but this last effort is the only chance to prevent a dangerous escalation in the war, which could include large-scale strikes on Iranian civilian infrastructure.

The deadline set by Donald Trump for Iran—10 days—was originally due to expire on Monday evening, but he extended it by 20 hours on Sunday, posting on Truth Social a new deadline of 8:00 pm ET on Tuesday.

Mediators are discussing a two-phase agreement, the first would include a potential 45-day ceasefire during which negotiations would take place to permanently end the war, while the second would involve a final agreement to end the conflict.

The ceasefire could be extended if negotiations require more time.
