KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait on Wednesday laid to rest 11-year-old girl Elna Abdullah, who died after being struck by falling shrapnel that hit a residential home during the interception of hostile aerial targets over the country.The funeral took place at Al-Sulaibikhat cemetery, where large numbers of citizens gathered to offer condolences to the grieving family and share in their loss.The tragedy has shaken Kuwaiti society and drawn attention to the human toll of the escalating military tensions across the region.During the funeral, the girl’s father spoke emotionally about the loss of his daughter.“She was born in Kuwait. She was a blessing from God given to me and taken away,” he said. “I thank the State of Kuwait and its government; they have not fallen short in supporting me.”He explained that his daughter had been sleeping alongside her sister when the shrapnel struck their home.He said he has two daughters, one of whom died while the other survived the incident in good health. He added that their mother is in stable condition.Kuwait’s Ministry of Health said the 11-year-old died in hospital from her injuries despite efforts by medical teams to save her life.In a separate statement, the ministry said the girl’s mother and three relatives were also injured and are receiving treatment, confirming that medical care is continuing.Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti armed forces said the shrapnel fell on a house in a residential area in Kuwait City while the military was intercepting “several hostile aerial targets” over the country’s airspace.
