RIYADH— The Transport General Authority (TGA) has proposed a draft amendment to the schedule of violations and penalties for the executive regulations governing taxi and passenger transport brokerage activities. The authority’s proposal is to amend the fine for individuals operating a private vehicle without a license to SR2,600 for violations related to public transportation and airport fares. The amendments aimed to activate the deterrent penalties stipulated in the regulations, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Committee for Reviewing Grievances and Violations of the Land Transport Law. These penalties include deportation for non-Saudi drivers who violate the provisions of the law and the executive regulations governing taxi and passenger transport brokerage activities, and publicizing the penalty in the local media at the expense of the offender in case of the repetition of the violation for the first time. The draft law grants the authority to impose penalties, and proposed amending the relevant paragraph to read as below: “The Committee for Reviewing Grievances and Violations of the Land Transport Law shall be responsible for imposing the following penalties: fines exceeding SR10,000; violations related to public taxi operations, including individuals preparing to transport passengers in private vehicles without a license; violations related to airport taxi operations, including individuals transporting passengers in private vehicles without licenses (for non-Saudi violators); suspension of the license, either partially or completely, for a period not exceeding one year; and suspension of the driver, the vehicle, or both, for a period not exceeding one year.”
