RAFHA — The Pinwheel Galaxy (M101) was recently observed shining above the Al-Sahla area south of Rafha, appearing near the constellation Ursa Major, also known as the Great Bear.Barjas Al-Fulaih, a member of the AFAQ Society for Astronomy, told the Saudi Press Agency that M101 is a vast spiral galaxy distinguished by its sweeping, well-defined arms that create a whirlpool-like shape. He noted that the galaxy is even larger than the Milky Way and is known for its many bright regions of active star formation.Al-Fulaih added that the Pinwheel Galaxy lies about 27 million light-years from Earth, explaining that March is considered one of the best times to observe it, particularly at the beginning or end of the month. The sight of the galaxy illuminating the skies captivated amateur astronomers and photographers, who gathered to document the celestial display in the area south of Rafha.
