China’s exports increased 5.5% in 2025
China’s exports grew faster than expected in December, helping the country post a record annual trade surplus despite high-tariff threats from US President Donald Trump.
In December, dollar-denominated exports rose 6.6% year-on-year, above forecasts for 3% growth, following a 5.9% increase in November. Imports rose 5.7% last month, marking the fastest growth since September 2025, according to official data released Wednesday.
For 2025, China’s exports increased 5.5%, while imports were largely flat, resulting in a record trade surplus of $1.19 trillion, nearly 20% higher than the previous year.
The figures come despite a sharp decline in trade with the United States last year amid Trump’s tariff hikes, with Chinese shipments to the US down about 20% and imports from the US falling 14.6%.
