SAMA says banks T-bond investments added SAR 5.3 bln MoM in October
Saudi banks’ investments in treasury bonds increased by 0.8% or SAR 5.3 billion month-on-month (MoM) to SAR 648.4 billion in October 2025, according to data from the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA).
Banks’ T-bond investments also grew year-on-year (YoY) by 12%, or SAR 68 billion, in October.
Investments in government bonds represented over 72% of banks’ total claims on the government and quasi-government sectors in Saudi Arabia by end of the month.
Total bank claims on the public sector reached SAR 895.3 billion at the end of October, compared with SAR 760 billion at the end of the same month in 2024.
These investments include both government long-term debt instruments issued by the Ministry of Finance, as well as internationally issued bonds and sukuk purchased by banks from the secondary market. SAMA T-bills were excluded as per the international standards.
