BYD Co. Ltd. is stepping up its Gulf expansion with plans to deploy 500 to 1,000 ultra-fast charging stations, including 1-megawatt units in Saudi Arabia and the UAE that can deliver a 400-kilometer range in just five minutes, Executive Vice President Stella Li said.
Li told Asharq News that BYD’s first step in Saudi Arabia will be opening advanced showrooms to showcase its electric vehicles.
She added that the company has poured resources into artificial intelligence and software over the past three years and will bring in engineers to advance autonomous driving and parking technologies. If market conditions align, BYD may also consider local manufacturing.
The automaker already operates branches in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dhahran, according to Argaam’s data.
In July, BYD’s Saudi General Manager Jerome Saigot said the company aims to expand further, planning seven additional branches by the second half of 2026 and forecasting sales of more than 5,000 vehicles this year.
