US President Donald Trump stated on July 1 that he is not considering extending the July 9 deadline for trade agreement negotiations, expressing skepticism about the possibility of reaching a deal with Japan.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One during his return to Washington from Florida, Trump said he had engaged with Japan but was skeptical about securing an agreement.

He also suggested that he may impose tariffs on Japanese imports, which could reach 30%, 35%, or even higher.

These tariffs would significantly exceed the previously proposed 24% levy announced on April 2, which was later suspended.

Earlier in the day, media reports indicated that Trump administration plans to prioritize trade talks with other countries before Japan, with India reportedly at the top of the list.
