The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture revealed that the Kingdom has achieved 61% self-sufficiency in red meat production, which reached more than 270,000 tons during 2023.
The Kingdom is witnessing a remarkable abundance in the production of red meat, which significantly helps support local production and enhance food security, the ministry added, in a statement.
It further indicated that this reflects ongoing efforts to boost local production and reduce dependence on imports, adding that this abundance comes because of developing the livestock sector, supporting local breeders, and adopting the latest technologies in animal production.

The livestock sector is one of the main pillars in strengthening local markets and achieving food security, as the Kingdom has more than 20.6 million heads of sheep, more than 7.4 million goats, in addition to about 502,000 heads of cows, and more than 2.2 million heads of camels, according to the statement.
