In a press statement from the White House on Feb. 4, Trump said “That’s fine” when asked about China’s retaliatory tariffs, Reuters reported.

White House Spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said in a comment of Fox Business Network that President Xi reached out to President Trump to arrange a call on the issue of foreign trade.

In another statement, she told reporters that a Trump-Xi call still needed to be scheduled.

The step came after Trump started a trade war against China by imposing a comprehensive tariff of 10% on all imports from Beijing. China responded, after US tariff came into force on Feb. 4, by imposing duties of up to 15% on some imports from the US and restricting exports of a range of rare earth metals.
