Trump is considering imposing 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada, because they are allowing too many people to cross the border, describing Canada as a very bad aggressor. He anticipates that the target date for the move will be Feb. 1st.

Although it was common knowledge that Trump planned to impose sweeping tariffs on trading partners, there was ambiguity surrounding the timing and scope of the tariff measures.

The plans threaten a trade war among North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) signatories, affecting relations with two key energy and electric vehicle (EV) import partners.
